Convocation 2007

NTU undergrad life has finally drawn a fullstop here.

Here's the memories of me in the very suit that I have been waiting to wear for almost 20 years of my life...hahaha...or maybe not just me... *wink* :P
From left to right: Vincent, Me, Zhiwei and Joe (@ orange block 4th floor)

The very place where we had our steamboat, TCS, and lao yu sheng during the CNY period. :)Hall 5 Canteen!

Why do they only renovate this place AFTER we left??! Sigh...*pout* :(Gifts brought back from New York by Joe! :DThe friendly Can B fruit stall uncle, who took over hall 5 canteen, wants a picture of us when he saw us there. He even wanna put our photo with him at his stall...well but...we probably forget to send him the softcopy ba... :PThe bridge that connects Yunnan Garden to the extension outside.

It is memorable to us coz we had been climbing over this gate whenever we came back late after our supper gathering...for the past 3 years liao... :)Yunnan Garden is certainly the best place in NTU to take graduate photos together...right? :PThe old school gate of the former Nanyang University. The Three NBS Graduates!Nanyang Lake!

Whenever there is a birthday celebration, it is very likely to end up here...hee hee hee...*grinz*Take a closer look at this photo...see a difference? :P

Don't know why Joe is so happy that day...hahaha...lolChinese Heritage Centre! We are trying HARD to take a good shot with us throwing our caps up in the air...and you can see how many NGs we got to take manz...lol

This is our best shot manz...hahaha...HOORAY! :DD

Of coz we'll not forget to take picture with the Hall 4 Canteen aunty...our favourite zhu char for dinner! :D Gonna miss her cooking and her hospitality manz... *smilez*

Our photoshoot has not ended at NTU. We took a cab down to Esplanade to take more pictures, something that really represents Singapore...hahaha...it's a pity Vic missed all these manz...lol

My solo shot! :P

I like the rooftop garden of Esplanade...the place is pretty as you overlook the Singapore River here... :)

Thank God for you guys manz...I can only imagine how my life in NTU will be like if I never stay in hall...probably sad...hahaha...lol

Most of us already started working now...this picture seems to suit us perfectly right now... :)

We also met another group of NTU graduates who came over to take photos together...so qiao! :D Hahaha...ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE! *jiayou!* :)

Convocation photos without taking with my parents are certainly NOT complete! The most unfortunate thing is that on the actual day of my convocation, I forgot to take my camera, the one I put in my bag everyday without fail, to NTU! (coz I left it at home to charge that very morning and forgot to take it as I left in a hurry...*sobz*)

Since I haven't collected my studio photos yet (will show you guys IF I have a softcopy :P), these are just all that I've got...haiz...memories of the day that my parents have been waiting for all these years...well I know they are and they are proud of me too...thank you to both my parents and my Father in heaven... :)

The S3 tutorial and seminar rooms...hahaha...how can I forget this place manz...lol

Mummy & Daddy! :D

They are pretty happy to be here...hahaha...lol

I finally manage to make it to this day, the day I really want to make my parents feel proud of me...one of the best ways I know to show my gratitude to all the years for raising me up... :)

PS: Daddy came all the way back from China just to attend my graduation ceremony k...even for just a few days I feel so touched...*sobz* :S

Finally...I am a GRADUATE!!! :DD

Thank God for giving me the wisdom to pass all my exams and making my parents happy.

Thank God for letting my parent came for my graduation ceremony and be proud of their very own daughter.

Thank God for being here with me always as I face the new changes ahead of me after graduate.

Guide me and use me my Lord as I want to shine for you too...hope you'll be proud of me too... :)

Happy food...from now on and forever... :P

Celebration dinner with mummy @ Ichiban Boshi Esplanade
Similar to Sakae, they also offer all plates (except the big red ones) at only S$1.90++ per plate. Since the last time I came here, which was like 2 years ago, their varieties of sushi increase so much so that I have a hard time choosing what I want to eat! :P Hahaha...no kidding manz...they all look so delicious lo...haha... *drool* :P Pork with mushroom soup...makes me feel good to have a bowl of hot soup after eating all these cold sushi... :)
Vegetable sushi...looks good isn't it? *cool* :D
I know someone like Joanne sure won't like this...hahaha...am I right? :P
And of course...my all time favourite SALMON SASHIMI!!! :DD
A Japanese dinner, for me, will not be complete without this. Hahaha...actually this is an interest that I inherited from my mummy...

So can you imagine two salmon sashimi lovers, mother and daughter, happily munching the precious 7 slices of salmon sashimi in such a cool Japanese restaurant??! Hahaha...doesn't sound very cool hor...*bleah* :P
Lunch with mummy on Labour Day @ Han's Century Square
Don't know why but I always find my mum looks like some cartoon or comic character in real life...hahaha...yah she can be quite cute at times la...a much bigger kid than me! *bleah* :P
I actually hesitated to post this picture coz I realise it makes me look so chubby! :S Hahaha...but then, I must remind myself to watch my diet as well...hahaha...oh wells... :P
I still Han's as they offer cheap set meals (main course, soup of the day, coffee/tea or orange juice, fruits) at a nice restaurant setting with waiters serving you your food.

Last time you still have to go out to look at the menu on their signboard to order food. Now, there is even a menu provided on each dinning table for you to sit down and discuss before ordering...how enjoyable manz...lol

Doesn't this chicken chop, with mushroom sauce, tempt you a little? *wink* :D

~Pavarotti
Thank God for the end of my exam so I can enjoy this break of mine before I start my work again.
Thank God for a wonderful mummy who will never fail to keep her dear daughter accompanied.

Thank God for all the happy food in this world so that we will always find a time to enjoy eating.

Thank God for everything. :)

Post-Exam Mood...?

Well, I don't know how I am feeling right now. The paper was not easy on me even though I studied hard on bonds and leases which I know that they sure will come out...so I guess I am a little disappointed at myself...grrr...what are you donig Christine???!!! *sobz*

Oh well, I am feeling disppointed / disenchanted / disillusioned / dissatisfied / let down / sad / depressed / dispirited / downcasted / downhearted / glum / heartbroken? / melancholy / miserable / sorrowful / unhappy / bleak / dpressing / disheartening / dismal / gloomy / sombre / awful / lamentable? / regrettable / terrible / unfortunate... *pout* :(

But then again there's no point of crying over the spilled water. Oh well, like Joe says, maybe I should start praying for the annointing over my markers to understand what the hell of stuffs I have written...hahaha... *bleah* :P

So maybe, I will soon and forever feeling happy / buoyant / carefree / cheerful / cheery / chirpy / content / contented / delighted / ecstatic / elated / euphoric / exhilarated / gay / glad / gleeful / high-spirited / in high spirits / jovial / joyful / jubliant / merry / overjoyed / pleased / sunny / thrilled / auspicous / favourable / fortunate / lucky / happy-go-lucky / light-hearted / relaxed / bliss / cheerfulness / elation / glee / joy / joyfulness / jubliantion / pleasure...from now on... :DD

So in conclusion, there are more words representing happiness than sadness. Therefore, logically and theorically, I should feel happier now...hee hee... :P *dots*

And I realise, I am not the only one going crazy kay...hahaha...lol (Proven as shown below :P)

It is just so hard to concentrate for my last paper on next Monday as the holiday mood is sinking in...can't wait to celebrate and keep going out after that!!! :D And I have started packing my stuffs here as I am gonna shift out of this little cozy corner of mine for good, probably next Thursday after two years of staying here (anyone free to help me? :P). There are so many great memories I have with this place over the past two years...I don't really wanna go...oh manz...I feel so sad...haiz... *sobz* :'(

Thank God for these wonderful 3 years of campus living for me...I will never forget all the events that have happened here, whether they make me happy or sad, they indeed leave me with deep impact that will make me grow, learn, and mature to become the person you want me to be...Amen. :)

These days I have been busy emailing and posting announcements to sell out my stuffs in my room. My deep fryer and the electric kettle are sold at last...whoopie! Now I just hope I can get rid of my TV shelf as well as my corner shelf too...the two most bulky stuffs ever! :S Hee hee...anyone interested? *wink* Good stuffs wor...hahaha...lol

Oh btw I got my backpacking bag for a real good deal at S$50 from an ang moh exchange student from Spain. 70 litres sia! :DD Hahaha...I was pretty shocked at the size of it coz it makes my whole body looks so timid and small after I put it on my back (Hanjie even commented that she cant see me from behind! *chuckle*). Emerge Air Rifle

This Saturday I will finally be going for the Emerge Air Rifle at Yishun Safra. My FIRST time joining Emerge, my FIRST Emerge competition, and my FIRST air rifle competition outside school...sounds GREAT! *big grin* :D

Somehow, I wished I won't get disappointed as I had no chance to train for it at all (they cancel the training session for competitors anyway), and there is no way I can train myself for it at home. It will be super embarassing for me if I shoot below my expectations...coz I think I still have high hopes for it...hahaha... :P

Looking back at my air rifle photos again, something I had been doing for over 8 years, it feels warmth in my heart again. Even when back in those days, the training sessions could have probably bored me along the way for uncountable number of times...geez... :P
I realise...I still miss shooting.
**Look at the pictures below and say with me: 帅 (SHUAI)!!! :P
(For picture on the right, I am actually the 3rd shooter further down in the row... :D)

Taxi 惊魂记

There were two events that make me totally pissed off and yet totally frightened today. Read on if you are interested and pls bear with me for the long-winded, completely detailed entry... :P

Event 1 -- Our taxi drivers are smart

WARNING: This entry would probably be written in my bias view and angry tone...so please pardon me for I am feeling quite pissed off now... *Hur!*

Today WAS meant to be a blissful and happy day as I finished yet another paper this morning and I was going to meet my mum for lunch at my favourite Holland V XO Fish Bee Hoon. You know that in life, there is simply nothing better than to have a great meal after a stressful and disappointing paper where the examiner seems to be finding their ways to fail us here (and apparently I have no idea why they still have to set such a tough paper when we are the graduating batch...do they really miss us so much?! :S). So in short, I had my nice lunch, and hang out with mum at Holland Village Starbuck (enjoying my favourite Java Chips!) for the rest of the afternoon on the comfy sofa there.

Well, maybe because I used to spell my time now as E-X-A-M period, I soon felt very uneasy sitting there, with nothing to do after finishing all the magazines and newspaper available at the cafe. And to add on to my nerves, the rain outside seem to get bigger and it doesn't seem like it will stop in a short time. Thus, at 4.00pm, I suggest to my mum to end the day and I would get a cab back to my hostel instead. And THIS is what started all my pms...

At 4.10pm, there is already a long queue at the taxi stand due to the rain. Yet there is no sign of any taxi available...or without the "On Call" sign. I realise that if I were to board a taxi at 5pm, I'll be charged an additional S$2.00* for the peak hour period charge. And since the calling fee for the taxi for non-peak period is only S$2.50**, it is actually more advantage for me to call a cab there then to wait until-don't-know what time to get a cab. It costs me only S$0.50*** in exchange for probably 30 minutes of my free time. It is worth the money spent because time is definitely PRECIOUS in exam period!

[For those who are still confused by me here, let me illustrate to you...
*Calling fee for cab = S$2.50
**Peak hour charge (5-8pm) = S$2.00
***Cost of my time for waiting cab = Calling fee for cab - Peak hour charge

Hence,
Cost of my time for waiting cab
= S$2.50 - S$2.00 = S$0.50
Assuming that, during exam period,

Cost of my time for studying = Cost of my time for waiting cab

Therefore
,
Cost of my time for studying = S$0.50!

...do you guys get it? :P]

Okay back on the topic, at 4.15pm, I called the booking hotline of the cab, in which the operators were all engaged as there were many others calling the cab as well. I supposed there were just not many cabs available as some of the taxi drivers told us that they were changing shift when they passed us. Well, at 4.30pm my call was finally answered and my booking was made. I informed the lady on the other side that I am going for two places, one at Bouna Vista MRT (to drop off my mum), and the other NTU. It surprised me that the search for taxi took less than a minute and the cab arrived in front of me the moment I hanged up my phone. Well, I thought it was my lucky day!

Yet I knew nothing so good could have really happened to me. The taxi driver told me that he didn't see the 'NTU' part and he couldn't take me anymore as he was going to change shift. I asked him to help me cancel the call then, but he refused, instead told me to call the centre again myself. HA! I juz can't believe this! For this, I need to call back the centre to cancel my booking, and wait AGAIN for long time for someone to pick up the phone to make my new booking...GREAT! *grrr...*

So still in the queue (now is 4.55pm and left with two more groups of passengers ahead of me), I made my call and once again listening to the music played on the other end of the phone. Finally even at 4.59pm, no one picked up my call yet.

However, on the struck at 5.00pm, 'MAGIC' seem to have shown right there before my eyes.
Suddenly, somehow, there was suddenly a long queue of taxis before me...right there at 5.00pm! It was enough, or even more than enough, for everyone waiting at the taxi stand. There was NO more "On Call" or "Hired" signs on the taxis, but ALL with the green light on top of the small remarkable vehicles. The taxi drivers seemed, all of a sudden, full of energy and totally satisfactory as they looked over at the long queue at the taxi stand. And there was just one more 'magic' -- all the meters now show an extra charge of "S$2.00" in a noticeable red light inside the cabs. Oh well...

And that's not the end of it...

The driver, somehow, lost his direction and made a big round to Buona Vista MRT (from Holland V) to drop off my mum on the other side of the road because he missed the place where we told him to drop her off even before we passed. Haiz...I'll take this as a goodwill of him coz at least my mum need not cross the road to get to the MRT...but a goodwill that probably not so appreciated by the both of us...

===========================
So this is end of event 1 that get me pissed... But I don't really hold any grudges, so after some time, I actually cooled off and I began to enjoy the view outside my window...well, not until something happen that totally scare the hell out of me...
===========================

Event 2 -- The thriller ride

After about 15 minutes, the cab finally reached the part of the expressway near NTU. I adviced on the cab to exit at the Pioneer Rd North (he intended to exit at Jalan Bahar again even though I told him this and he actually NODDED his head in response...grrr...how many times do I need to repeat my sentence?! *pms liao*) We finally reached the exit, and as usual, he made a right turn. I noticed the traffic light was spoilt on the exit, but the taxi driver only slowed down a little as he drove on...

And this is where my horror began...

He continued driving straight to make the big right turn into the NTU campus, when suddenly, a bus 179 appeared on our right, speeding at a very high speed! The taxi driver made an urgent halt immediately, and I was jerked forward. I guess the bus uncle also saw our little taxi coming out of the expressway, and immediately he too stepped on the brake, missing us only about 1 meter away!!!

CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT?! My life was SO closed of being taken away if any of us did not stopped in time!!! It would be a ride to heaven for me if the taxi driver did not stopped in time! I am completely shocked and speechless at that moment on my backseat!

And my horrorifying experience soon turned into rage...

After that incident, my taxi driver immediately burst aloud his complaints on how inconsiderate the bus driver was, how the bus driver SHOULD give in to us and let us go first, instead of we being the one letting the bus driver goes first. He seemed to be getting even more frustrated as he continued his scolding all the way back till we reached our destination.

Well YES I agree to him that the bus driver is indeed driving (or more like SPEEDING to me) way too fast, especially when the traffic light is spoilt. That is not a very safe way to drive in such a situation. It could caused a total hazard to all other vehicles, probably except a big lorry or a monster truck which are bigger than the bus.

Yet I can't believe the irresponsibility of this taxi driver! I mean, all his complainings are pointing towards the bus driver...what about he HIMSELF??? Does he know that he has the same responsibility to ensure the road safety as the bus driver...and probably my safety as well as being his only passenger? Does he know that he should have slowed down his taxi instead of driving at such a high speed as well...especially when he KNEW that the traffic light was SPOILT? DOES HE EVEN KNOW THAT MY LIFE IS IN HIS HANDS???

There was quite a big wall under the expressway at the exit there and hence both the bus driver and the taxi driver can't really see each other here. This is what we learnt from our driving course (if you had taken it) -- the BLINDSPOT. And for those who don't know how to deal with blindspot, well you just need to watch out for it, slow down your car, check if it is safe before you drive on. APPARENTLY, both of these two super-experienced drivers seemed to have forgotten what they have learnt back then...

However, I have to admit that I don't really blame the bus driver in this case even though I know I should. I will explain to you why...

The bus driver was on the main road, and our taxi was considered to be on the smaller lane that link to the main road. By right and from the driving theories, the bus driver should go first because he was driving straight and he was, all along, on the main road. Our taxi should be giving in instead because we should be more aware when we need to make our turn in.

Moreover, by normal circumstances, there are normally less vehicles exiting the expressway and turning into NTU, than are there the regular intervals of the bus 179 coming out of NTU. It makes more sense that the vehicles, which exit the expressway, should look out for this regular 'visitor' of NTU...rather than the other way round.

Sigh...all these events really spoiled my day, especially in which I intended to enjoy right after the yucky AA304. Well, there is just only one thing I am glad about -- I am still alive! THANK GOD for letting me to live a while longer here... :)

"Still feeling quite pissed...I seriously need more Java Chips to cool off... *Hur!*"

===========================

PS: After thinking of today's events, I have come up with some proposals for improvement of our taxi in the year of 2XX7...

Proposal 1: Installing Sensored Cameras with timer

*Image is drawn according to artist's impression. :P*

This cameras should be installed at all taxi stand, such that if any taxi (except those changing shifts within around 5-6pm) missed the nearest taxi stands without a valid reason, within the time frame from 4.00-4.59pm, their license numbers should be taken down by the camera and be taken notice of.

Proposal 2: Implementing All-You-Can-See Sunglasses

*This product is not the actual product.*

It is a pair of powerful sunglasses which enables the user to see through walls and buildings. This has probably been used in some of the movies like the James Bonds series and MIB, the highly advanced intelligent agents and spies. It is just not yet designed for the use of the public. Hence, the government should consider inventing such sunglasses especially for the road users such as the taxi drivers so that they can look out for any vehicles that are turning out from the blindspots.

Proposal 3: Minority Report (Taxi version)

*Image is drawn according to artist's impression. :P*

If anyone of you watched the movie "Minority Report", you would still remember the big touch screen used by Anderton (played by Tom Cruise) to check for any crimes that are going to take place under their Pre-Crime Program. We should probably consider getting one of those big screen for our taxis, except the computer system should be called the Street Directory Program. Whenever the taxi driver are not sure of where they go, they can request the computer to locate their destination on the map using this Street Directory Program. It will provide the ideal route for them to take from where they started from.

Well, the future is in our hands...isn't it? *wink* :P

Thank God for the racial harmony in Singapore... :)
Woohoo one down, and two more to go! :) Geez...I feel like I am much lighter after the heavy burden is gone. Right now I just pray that nothing goes wrong and I can just pass the paper...and GRADUATE!!! Hee hee...getting more and more desperate... :P
