Europe Trip: Italy > FLORENCE! (01/06/07)

It has been a while since I wrote about my long long ago Europe trip. Since now I have the time to blog again, let me just continue with it ya? *wink*
Pardon me coz I probably have forgotten some of things by now... :P
This is Florence (Italian: Firenze), a small town that is walkable everywhere. The place is famous for, mainly, the world largest painting museum -- the Uffizi, and also the world most well-known naked man statue -- David by Michelangelo. At Piazzale Michelangelo, a place where you can see the Florence's skyline and also the bronze statue of David, replica of the one in the museum Accademia.Thank God for our campsite is located right beside Piazzale Michelangelo, where we get to see the whole of Florence from above in the day and even at night!Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), the most famous bridge in Florence.Uffizi @ Piazza della Signoria

The museum it very big and displayed mainly European paintings that are dated way back to as early as the 14th century. If you watched the movie Hannibal, part of the show is filmed here. Many worldwide well-known paintings displayed here includes (From left to right):The Birth of Venus, Venus Urbino (the picture imitated in the movie Titanic), Bacchus, and La Primavera (picture featured at the start of the drama series Desperate Housewives).Take a look on the outside from the second floor of Uffizi, you will be able to see the river of Florence from the top as well as its bridges...Isn't it breathtaking? :)At Piazza della Signoria!

There are replicas of the world famous statues everywhere in the square of those that are featured in the museums of Florence. The statue above is the replica of the Rape of Cerebus.Florence is really small and not many places for you to travel around to. The highlights here are mainly the museums which displayed probably the best Italian art sculptures and paintings that have become the national treasures over the past history...Perseus with the Head of Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini, 1554Even the shops along the street has statues guarding in front of the building...how majestic...
The best-known site and crowning architectural jewel of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Fiore, known as The Duomo. Facade and Campanile (bell tower) of Santa Maria del FioreThe Accademia dell'Arte del Disegno ("Academy of the Art of Design")Michelangelo's David in the Tribuna that was built especially to house it.Piazza della Repubblica The piazza has a carousel (or the merry-go-round) at the side. I was really tempted to take a ride on it as it looks so elegant here, unlike the ones you see in the amusement park that are only catered for the kids...oh well it feels good to be kids again isn't it? :P I have saw this kind of street artist online before...do you recognise? They use special kind of paint and draw very realistic pictures on the ground that will give a 3-D effect when you look at them from above. I had seen one who draws a hole that looks so real like you will fell into it!The Europeans has no Pig Year but yet they have this bronze pig statue. You are supposed to throw a coin to it and make a wish as this pig is here to help you make your wish come true...can you believe it???

Florence's skyline at night from Piazzale Michelangelo...lovely isn't it? :))
