Europe Trip: Austria > Vienna! (28/05/07)

Stephansdom Cathedral @ StephansplatzThe interior of the cathedral is gothic and grand...but it is the same for most old European churches anyway...Sometimes I am quite marvelled at how old the European churches can be and how majestic their buildings are ever since in the past. How come it is just not the same for Asia?Graben Street! This is probably the "Orchard Road" of Vienna. Unfortunately, we came here on a public holiday and over the weekends, hence most of the shops are closed and no shopping for us manz... :(Vienna, the City of Music...you will NEVER miss any musicians playing on the streets because they are really everywhere here...First Viennese lunch in Vienna! :DD

Vienna is well known for Wiener Schnitzel, a cutlet of veal that is pounded flat, coated in flour, egg and breadcrumbs, and fried in clarified butter. It is available in almost every restaurant that serves Viennese cuisine and a popular dish as well...This is my favourite -- APPLE STRUDEL!!! *drool*

Vienna has a long tradition of cakes and desserts, and among them includes Apple Strudel (or Apfelstrudel). Back in Singapore, Ritz has always been one of my favourite snacking places for an apple strudel. Now, I am AT Vienna eating the original hot apple strudel...like a dream come true!!! :D Can you feel my excitement? Hahaha...lol

THANK GOD for the yummillicious food and allowing me to taste the food that I desire! :)Hofburg!Old water fountain...it must be quite grand at its time... :)Hofburg is huge but they look about the same everywhere...Directly opposite the Hofburg are the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Naturhistorisches Museum, which houses many paintings by old masters and ancient and classical artifacts.Another statue...Europe will never lack of any of them... :)Finally the Mozart Statue!
He certainly is one of the most well-known and best musician for his music...
Wien Metro!

If you look at it carefully, the posters on the wall of the metro stations are mainly concerts and musical performances...truly the City of Music... *grinz* :)
Another big scoop of gelato for me! :D
The central of Vienna and the Albertina Museum.Wanna to go inside Wiener Staatsoper (on the left), Vienna State Opera House, but unfortunately it was closed that day as it was a public holiday...sad case for me... :(Another band performing on the street. What caught my attention is the small and big triangular guitar that the guys are playing on both sides...so cool! :DHaus der Musik! ("House of Music")The museum really goes into the details of music, musical instruments, and the lives of the musicians...quite an eye opener for music idiots like me! Hahaha...lol *bleah*Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart once stayed here while he was in Vienna...now the house (House of Mozart) has become a museum showcasing part of this great musician's life here...The rythm clock that Mozart once used when he's composing music. Vienna is a musical place...and probably that's why the opera masks are pretty popular here too... :)Evening view of the Stephansdom...majestic ya? :)Some middle eastern cuisine that are truly unique to Singaporeans as you can hardly find them here in Singapore...the taste is like eating kerbab meat with some special sauced salads... :)The menu is in German and they don't even provide English menu. Thank God that Daryl knows a bit of German and for the friendly waiter, we just ordered something safe enough to make our dinner a filling one. This is a turkish or middle-east style of satay chicken served with rice...looks delicious and taste like one too... :DCheers to a great day in Vienna! *wink* :)

We end our day with a few more sccops of ice cream. Have you ever tried Ice-cream soaked in fruit tea? :P

Vienna is a small town and you probably can finish most of it in a day if you are not a fan for museums. Wanted to go for a musical concert here but they were out of my budget... *sobz* :(
