Europe Trip: Uniquely Polish Food! (22-26/05/07)

Let me just introduce you to the UNIQUE food in Poland. Compared to the Western Europe, the Eastern Europe cuisines are very much different than the usual Western food, and even rare to see them around back in Singapore (not that I know of any Eastern European restaurants around... :P).

Food in Poland are more meaty and less vegetables. Or when they do have vegetables, they are those we don't normally make use of in cooking such as beetroot. Odd cuisines they may have but amazingly delicious too! :) Actually, I was a little worried about the meals while in Poland coz I am not a meat lover and I wondered if I can get used to their cuisines...

Well, the photos tell all aren't they? :P Hahaha...lol
Kebab stalls are EVERYWHERE in Europe! They are considered as fast food there (along with pizza). But especially in Poland, they seemed to be lined up all along the roads...gosh...

It is not rare to find a chain of Kebab stalls side-by-side along the same stretch of road...not to mention the Kebabs not in huge portion, even bigger than our dear Carl's Junior burgers which you need both hands to hold on to it (like the kid in the picture)... *grinz*Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup @ Vietnamese Corner!

As mentioned in the previous entry, this is one of the BEST beef noodle soup I have tasted so far...if only I can go back and try them once again... *yummilicious* :PDinner at a local Polish restaurant near Huiling's place!

Our starter is the red beetroot soup with meat dumpling like the wanton but a little bigger...tastes a little sour but the dumplings are good! :DHungarian style Pork Chop!

The pork chop tastes about the same...the difference is probably the different seasoning used on the pork chop...nice... :) PEROGI! :D

These are the famous Polish dumplings, filled with either meat, cabbage or cheese...pretty much like our jiao zi but they seasoned the dumplings with different kind of herbs and probably olive oil and garnish them with salad. I love this dish! :)Bulgarian style salad!

Don't really know how to describe their salad sauce...hahaha...but not too bad la...lolOur sumptuous Polish dinner for only 35 zylotz (SGD 17.50 for two)!

Poland is probably the one of the few places you can ever find such a great deal in Europe... :DPoland is also another paradise for GELATO ICE CREAM!!! :DD4.20 zylotz for 4 scoops of Gelato ice cream and free fruit toppings! If I ever migrate to stay in Poland, you will know my reason...hehehe...lolDropping by at this tea house at the Old Town, highly recommended by Huiling! :)Cozy underground tea house...looks like a little dugeon in the house hor? *bleah* :PThey really have a wide variety of blended tea drinks, probably even more so than most of the tea houses you see in China and their combinations are super coolz!

Hahaha...I feel like a tai-tai down there having my high tea! :P
Went to a turkish-like Kebab stall nearby on our last day at Warsaw before taking the train to Krakow. The stall design kinda attracts my attention, especially the tall kettle-like ornament here...can feel the difference in our culture and theirs... *wink* :)Turkish Lasagne!

They replace the cheesy toppings with a layer of sour cream sauce and the layers are very much thicker than the normal ones we ate in Western Europe or back in Singapore...yet the taste is really as good as that...maybe even better! :DDNever forget to munch of a Belgium waffle that is topped with a thick, juicy layer of chocolate fudge before boarding the train...envy? *bleah* :P
Bread stall @ Old Town Square, Krakow
The bread sold here only costs 1 zylotz each and it is super huge!
Don't try to finish it yourself manz...lol
A slice of pizza for lunch! :D
And I am in the wonderland of manifying objects...a pizza that is bigger than my face! *grinz*Dinner at Krakow is the best coz we found a superb setting restaurant that is recommended by the hostel receptionist...I love this place manz...lolWild mushrooms in cream sauce!
This is my most favourite coz I love mushrooms! *drool* :D
The portion of the sauce is so much that we took it as if it is mushroom cream soup...*oops! :P*The local Gulash I think or similar. Their sauces taste really different...guess that's what make them stand out from the rest?! :D The restaurant is pretty romantic with a pianist playing the grand piano in the background and tables are well-lit with candles...
Mistakenly, I ordered this Hungarian pancake, which is a main course, as a dessert!
Poor us cannot finish it...how wasted... *sobz* :(
Bread pizza! Had this while we are walking around the concentration camps and the Death Railway at Birkenau. :)Dinner back in the Old Town Square.
This time we make it simple at a small cafe near the end of the roadside... :)Perogis again! :DD
Since they only have 3 fillings, I will strongly recommend you to take the meat or the cheese fillings but NOT the cabbage one. Not that I don't like veggie...the taste is really...weird... :/ Some Polish sauce...hahaha...you know what's that? :P
Cabbage rolls stuffed with rice!
This is healthy and yummy...and super filling too...hahaha...lol
Final round of Polish Gelato before we head off to Prague!
Looking at this wide range of Gelatos...oh well how can you resist them??? :DD
Now can you see how big ONE SCOOP of ice cream is here? And it only cost approx. SGD 0.70 cents per scoop! Hahaha...now you will know my dilemma...lol
Btw, see the bright blue coloured ice cream? That flavour is called Smurf!!! Don't know how to describe its taste coz it is really unique but nice...reminds me of the little smurfies...hahaha...*chuckle*
Miss Poland coz it is really unique compared to many other European countries I have visited so far. The expenses there is low yet the quality of goods is high. Polish people are also a friendly bunch people, willing to offer you help whenever you need them and patiently trying to figure out what you are saying as most of them still only understand Polish only.
It can be quite a cultural shock and facing many difficulties in communications in Poland. Yet, at the same time, it is also a very good learning experience I will never forget...
Thank God for this wonderful opportunity and for Huiling who has been there to take care of me... :)
