Europe Trip: UK > Cambridge! (12/06/2007)

King Cross Station @ LondonGoing to Cambridge will need to take an 1-hr ride from here...my favourite station! =D

Know why? Harry Potter boarded his train to Hogwarts here on Platform 9 3/4! The journey feels short...I enjoy such a train ride though...feels like a getaway from the bustling city life...heehee... =PWelcome to Cambridge!This is the place where some of the world smartest persons will be born... *grinz*Trinity College, Cambridge

Well...it is one of the most famous colleges of Cambridge for its old, majestic buildings...and I think this is also where our Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew once studied at...Students punting along the river...the most favourite sports here I guess... =)The dream of most students... Dining Hall...does it look like the one at Hogwarts too?

Oh well...the real Hogwarts dining hall is located at Oxford though... =XTouring around Cambridge is pretty interesting because after all it is still a school...and there are students having their exams at that period of time too!Somewhere in the garden of Cambridge... =PWent for lunch at a local Jap restaurant in the town area as Kian Hoe wanna try it...my second asian food in Europe outside...not too bad though... =) The town map of Cambridge
Tour groups touring the Cambridge campus...so interesting...lolKian Hoe...the smart guy pursuing his doctorate here...really appreciate him for bringing me around and making my stay at Cambridge a very pleasant one indeed...

" 轻轻的我走了,正如我轻轻的来;

那河畔的金柳,是夕阳中的新娘;

软泥上的青荇,油油的在水底招摇;

那榆荫下的一潭,不是清泉,是天上虹;

寻梦?撑一支长篙,向青草更青处漫溯;

但我不能放歌,悄悄是别离的笙箫;

悄悄的我走了,正如我悄悄的来;
This marks the closing of my Europe trip soon...sigh... Grass fields are everywhere in Cambridge!According to Kian Hoe, the leaves here will turn red in autumn...can you imagine that?! Haha...lolFind a little Amsterdam here too...hehe...lolCambridge is honestly very scenic too!Water log can even be found in Cambridge...woohoo!Eagle, the pub!
They say this is where many famous scientist and professors come to have fun and relieve their stress. Now it is turning into quite a tourist attraction as seen...ha... =P
Some labs are not located inside the school compound but rather juz outside the campus.I guess all sorts of courses and schools can be found in Cambridge. After all, all Singaporeans also had our GCE 'N'/'O'/'A' Level Exam papers from Cambridge!
Well, maybe I should try to sneak in and check on the questions and results for the exams...hehe... *bleh* =P
Darwin College (Library)Darwin College is where Kian Hoe is studying at now...mostly consist of the graduates who are having their post-graduate courses here... =)Reading Room!Scenic view from the window in the reading room...wow... =))Somehow I am juz attracted to this staircase...mysterious, old and classic...hahaha...lolThe slightly more modern dining hall @ Darwin College...the super elongated table kinda reminds me of Oliver Twist though...remember the school canteen he went ya? *wink*The backyard of where Kian Hoe stays...lovely... =)View from above...you can see that their leisure activities are simply juz punting and fellowshiping with one another on the soft green grass field...so relax!To get the feel of the life in Cambridge, you must really try the punting!
It is really fun as you got to push the boat with the rod given since the river bed is not deep at all. I does not have the strength so Kian Hoe takes up most of the pushing part...really got to thank him lots manz...hehe...lol
Beautiful river sight from the boat!We make a circle around the whole campus, stopping wherever we want to and juz enjoy the view...awww...is school life really like this perfect? =DLooks like another angle of Amsterdam...haha...lol
Oh gosh...Europe is the same everywhere! =DRental for punts seem to be turning into quite a good business here...ha...lolSee the crowd waiting to get on the punts? ;)Hahaha...helping Kian Hoe to promote his place...so blessed for him...haha...lolThe tree leaves hang low here...you really got to watch out while you punt...My turn to punt the boat! =D
Oh well...I tried a few time to push the boat forward...but end up making it rotate in circles on the spot! OMG...grrr....*pout* =S
And not shown in this picture, Kian Hoe was actually holding the shorter oar (for emergency purpose) and trying to stop the swirling and to move the boat forward...hahaha...so embarrassing! *blush*

After punting, Kian Hoe brought me to the Student Centre to take a rest. Somehow, we found our ways to sneak into the Scholar lounge and get ourselves to this cozy place that overlook the Cambridge river...woohoo...

Cambridge is truly a school PERFECT and very conducive for studying...wow... *mesmerise*

Every college here will have their own school gate at the front, a symbol that represents them I guess...though nothing is being fenced up here...hehe...lol

Dinner @ cozy pub that faces the river

My dinner -- A beef corn pie! =D

This is another pub I found while I am on my way back to the train station...the name of the pub reminds me of the nick of my friend...hahaha...you know who you are...*bleh* =P
