Notre Dame de Paris (musical)

I am kinda attracted to watch musicals these days, probably because of the upcoming famous musical, The Phantom of the Opera, which is going to be played next year march...on my birthday yo! :P Hahaha...lol Actually, I am very much attracted by those great stories behind these musicals...wonder how I would feel to witness this stories in the form of plays rather than reading off the novels that you can easily purchased from the bookstores.

Playing at Esplanade now is the Notre Dame de Paris. The musical is faithful to Victor Hugo's original novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", unraveling the story of Quasimodo, the bell ringer of the Cathedral of Notre Dame, who is an ugly hunchback but has a beautiful mind; Esmeralda, an attractive gypsy woman; and Frollo, the provost of the cathedral who falls victim to a desire for love.

It has already been a phenomenon in the Europe, previously attracted over 7.5 million spectators worldwide and has been performed over 3,000 times in 13 countries including France, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Russia and China. Read more of the story from Wikipedia:

As I check online further, there is indeed a catheral that is named Notre Dame de Paris. From Wikipedia, Notre Dame de Paris (French for "Our Lady of Paris", meaning the church in Paris dedicated to the Virgin Mary), often known simply as Notre Dame in English, is a Gothic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in Paris, France, with its main entrance to the west. While a major tourist destination, it is still used as a Roman Catholic cathedral (archbishop of Paris). Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.

Notre Dame de Paris was one of the first Gothic cathedrals, and its construction spanned the Gothic period. Its sculptures and stained glass show the heavy influence of naturalism, giving them a more secular look that was lacking from earlier Romanesque designs. It was also among the first buildings in the world to use the flying buttress. Read more of the cathedral from the website below:

If I am not having my exam now, I would really want to go and watch this musical Notre Dame de Paris. Lovers who cannot be together and desire for undestined love which eventually lead to grief mistakes being made...sounds like a beautiful but sad ending touching love story to me.. :) And I wish I can go to France next year too...can go and visit this cathedral then...hahaha...lol
